Welcome to the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, BMS Institute of Technology and Management, Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.
The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) was established in the year 2002-03, affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi and approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The UG programme is provisionally accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), New Delhi till 2019. The Department offers full-time UG programme in Electronics & Communication Engineering and has a research center recognized by VTU, Belagavi.

The Department has qualified and experienced faculty members with expertise in VLSI and embedded systems, digital communication, signal processing, computer networks, nanoelectronics, etc. The ongoing research activities include digital image processing and computer vision, biomedical signal processing, communication, and networking. The department facilitates well-equipped laboratories strengthened by software's like Matlab, Cadence, Labview, HFSS, Multisim, Vivado, Keil, etc. and supported by Zibo, Nexys, Kintex boards for UG projects and research activities. The department facilitates industry institute interaction with the industries like KPIT Technologies, Tata Elxsi, Edgate, etc. through collaborations for the industrial visit, internship, workshops and job opportunities.

Program Educational Objectives

  1. Work as Professionals in the area of Electronics, Communication, and Allied Engineering Fields. The graduates will be able to work as professionals and adapt to changes in the electronics, communication, and related engineering domains through personal success and lifelong learning.
  2. Pursue Higher Studies and involve in Interdisciplinary Research Work. The graduates could be able to continue the electronics engineering profession by pursuing higher educations. As is evident from the employer’s feedback, that today’s world is interdisciplinary in nature. Therefore, the graduating engineers are expected to showcase their professional visibility by associating themselves in interdisciplinary research.
  3. Exhibit Ethics, Professional Skills and Leadership Qualities in their Profession. The graduates are expected to display academic honesty, integrity, and personal responsibility; adhering to IEEE code of ethics. Demonstrate an understanding of engineering knowledge and professional skills appropriate to electronics engineering. Displaying actions that entail being motivated and conscientious; exhibiting leadership.

Program Outcomes

  1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  5. Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
  6. The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
  7. Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.

Achievements

  1. Patent filed by Dr Seema Singh and Mrs Mamatha K R,from BMSIT on 5/7/18 . Students from 2017 batch were also involved in the patent for the invention titled "AN AUTOMATED WASTE SEGREGATION SYSTEM USING ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORK".
  2. Consultancy for design and development of ECU for spot welding machine worth 1.72 Lakhs,was received by Prof Saneesh Cleatus and Prof. Anil Kumar D, 2017(completed).
  3. Dr.M.C Hanumantharaju is a Reviewer in IEEE Transaction on Industrial Electronics. Microprocessor and Microsystems ,Computers in Biology, IET Image Processing Journal,2017.
  4. Dr.M.C Hanumantharaju presented a paper in an International Conference on Current Trends in Engineering, Science & Technology organised by KU Home Kasetsart University, Bangkok (Thailand) on 6th & 7th Jan 2017.
  5. Department has produced over 70 research publications by the faculty members in various international and national journals as well as international and national conferences in the past two years.
  6. Dr. Ambika R has been awarded with Ph.D in May 2017
  7. Five research scholars have completed their comprehensive viva voce.
  8. Five projects selected by Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST), Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore from last three years.
  9. Elecsim is a club run by students under the guidance and support from faculty. The club aims to encourage technical interest among students from various departments who have common interest in electronics. It organizes various activities to strengthen concepts and build the spirit of team work. All the technical activities organized by ELECSIM are associated with student chapters of one of the professional bodies such as IEEE,ISTE. Under this club, the department conducts an intercollegiate technical fest annually in the Odd semester.
  10. Waves is a bi annual newsletter published in the month of January and July from the Department, as a part of disseminating various activities and achievements happening in the department.
  11. In order to bridge the gap between industry and academia and to make students familiar with modern tools workshops are conducted in association with industry personnel.
  12. Students from ECE department have published over 60 papers in various national and international, conferences and journals from last three years
