Computer Science & Engineering

Computer Science & Engineering deals with the theoretical foundations of information and computation along with practical techniques for implementation and application. Computer Science engineers can contribute as Software Developers, Hardware Engineers, Database Analysts (SQL), System analysts or System Engineers, Security analysts, Business System Database Developer, Data Modeller, Software Quality Assurance (QA) apart from multi-disciplinary research .
The Department of Computer Science & Engineering was started in the year 2002 – 2003 with an intake of 60 and currently it is 90. The Department is highly progressive and has a team of well qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty. Four faculty members hold Doctoral degree, and Twelve Faculty members are currently pursuing their Doctorate degrees. The Department of Computer Science & Engineering continues to recruit faculty members with high experience in academics, industry and research.
The Department has well equipped computer laboratories for course work, teaching and to carryout projects. The servers and nodes are all connected in the network with all necessary licensed software. Exposure to cutting edge technologies is provided by means of Industrial Projects and technical talks from domain experts of reputed research organizations. The students are encouraged to involve themselves in creative, technical and research activities. Students have been performing well in the university examination.
The Department maintains a wireless network (Wi-Fi) with unlimited Internet access for use by staff and students. Our graduates are working in leading IT industries and many students have secured admissions to prestigious universities in India and abroad. The Department has a R&D Center as well as an Incubation Center which are facilitating the students to acquire practical knowledge.
The Department also offers an M.Tech. Program (post-graduation) in Computer Science & Engineering, which was introduced in the year 2014 with an approved intake of 18.

  1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

Achievements

  1. The Department of computer science engineering has set up a CSI (Computer Society of India) chapter on campus with a vision “IT for Masses” thus enabling IT professionals and computer users to work towards making the profession an area of choice amongst all sections of the society. Under this chapter the Department has organized various activities including technical talks, interactive sessions, and workshops.
  2. Mr. Harinath H.N, Asst. Instructor developed a Student Feedback software for the college in October-2015.
  3. Dr.Thippeswamy G, Prof and HOD, Department of CSE participated in DSI-RFBR sponsored research project entitled “Mathematical models and morphological analysis based algorithm for image compression and classification in computer visual system” and presented his research progress at Lomonosov Moscow state University, Moscow, Russia.
  4. Exposure to cutting edge technologies is provided by means of industrial visits and technical talks from domain experts of reputed research organizations.
  5. The Department has incubated research laboratories/startups: Open Cube Labs, Ventalyst India Pvt Ltd, Rockstat with the prime focus on providing hands on experience in real time project environments.
  6. The Department organizes an annual intercollege technical fest, titled “SEMAPHORE”, with widespread participation from other colleges and departments.
  7. Mr. Suraj Kumar Jana, student of CSE secured 1st place in the International Space Apps Challenge and also won the International Create Challenge competition of Switzerland for the year 2013-2014.
  8. The Department is actively involved in organizing various student centric activities, Workshops, seminars and technical talks. A few recent ones to highlight are: Four days’ workshop on “Android App Development”,a technical talk on ‘Importance of Data Structures and Algorithms in the Industrial Scenario’ by Mr. Vijay Kulkarni, Senior Software Engineer, NDS Bangalore, Presentation of Novel Ideas on E-Governance and Societal Needs, a Technical talk on “Latest Techniques in Wireless Sensor Networks” by Dr. Shiva Murty, Associate professor, VTU P.G Center, Bangalore, a one day National Conference on ‘Cloud Computing’.
  9. In the quest for academic excellence leading to global standards and to provide a platform for the students graduating from the portals of BMSIT, the Department has adopted the practice of Outcome Based Education (OBE).
