Electrical and Electronics Engineering

Electrical and Electronics engineering deals with the study and application of electricity, electronics and electromagnetism. Engineers holding this degree can design, develop and maintain electrical installations, control systems and components to meet required specifications. Their work focuses on factors such as economy, quality, reliability, safety and sustainability, professional ethics and environmental concern.
The Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering was started at BMSIT&M in the year 2003-04. The department is currently headed by Dr. Narapareddy Ramarao, with an approved intake of 60 students and is now a VTU approved Research Centre. The E&EE Program has been Accredited by the National Board of Accreditation in 2016. The Department has a team of well qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty who have also undergone professional training from leading organizations in Teaching-Learning Methodologies. All the laboratories that were set up initially are constantly upgraded keeping in view both University requirements and the research activities in the department.
The students are encouraged to work on both in-house projects and also with leading Research Organizations in Electrical Sciences. Several students and faculty members have published papers in National and International Journals along with paper presentation contests and National/ International conferences.
The department has excellent placements including those in core Electrical Engineering companies such as Siemens Ltd., TD Power Systems and PRDC, Bangalore and in reputed IT Companies. Many students have also secured admission in prestigious Universities abroad.
The department envisions a strategic plan wherein Post Graduate programs will be started along with setting up of Innovation Laboratories catered to learning beyond the syllabus.

Program Educational Objectives

Program Outcomes

  1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  5. Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modelling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
  6. The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
  7. Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.

  7. Mohit Bisht, Srijan Srivastava, Ajay Kumar and Vibhuti Bhushan participated in PROJECT EXPO-2015 held at Dr. T.T.I.T, K.G.F and were awarded Third prize for the project Titled, Magnetically Levitated Vertical-Axis Wind Turbine under the guidance of Mr. Manjunatha Babu P.
  8. The IEEE Student Chapter was started with overwhelming response from the student community and faculty. In the year 2014, The IEEE Student Chapter has won the title of "Best Student Branch (small)" in the Karnataka section of IEEE Student Chapter.
  9. BMS Institute of Technology and Management has been declared as a winner for WIPRO Earthian awards 2014. (6th Semester students, guided by Mrs. Manjula B.K.)
  10. Aranya Khinvasara and Aniruddha Bharadwaj of 5th Sem EEE, BMSIT&M, competed with other 700 students of 133 colleges and won First Prize at the Climate Change Educational Program -2013 Quiz organized by the Divecha Centre for Climate Change at Indian Institute of Science(IISc)
  11. Department is organizing industry relevant open courses to the benefit of student community. A Mat-Lab Primer, Embedded C programming, SPICE applications in the analysis and design of Electrical and electronic circuits to name a few.
  12. The Department organizes an annual intercollege technical fest, titled VIDYUT, with widespread participation from other colleges and departments.
  13. Every year, a variety of Industrial visits are organized by the Department in order to enhance exposure and to foster a better technical expertise. Visits that have been conducted so far include: Kolar HVDC grid and Kolar Photovoltaic plant, Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Rural Energy Development (MGIRED),Jakkur, Shivanasamudra Power Plant, Horse Power Industries, Hindi High Vacuum, Integrated Electricals, KAIGA Nuclear Power Plant, Adani UPCL etc.
  14. The students are encouraged to work on both in-house projects and also with leading Research Organizations in Electrical Sciences like Central Power Research Institute, Indian Institute of Science, General Electric and also companies like Honeywell Technology Solutions, ABB, Bharath Heavy Electricals Ltd., Kirloskar Electric Co., Schneider Electric, Bharat Electronics etc.
  15. The Energy Management Cell in the department is active in taking up energy conservation measures in the campus.
  16. The department has been inviting eminent academicians for technical talks and frequently conducts several workshops, seminars and conferences; mainly in the areas of Industrial Automation, Micro & Smart Systems Technology, Power Systems, High Voltage Engineering & Power Electronics.
  17. The Department has been organizing a variety of conferences, workshops, expert lectures and other student-centric activities to instill innovation and up-to-date technical knowledge for an array of subjects.
  18. Prof. Suma Umesh and Dr. T C Balachandra of EEE Department have received funds from Naval Research Board, New Delhi, for a project titled Simulation of Micro gas sensor for the detection of SF6 leakage and its constituent gases under partial discharge in a GIS system for an amount of Rs 5.25 lakhs.
  19. Technical Talks that have been held in the past few years include: Thin film cell and its fabrication (Akshay Urja Club), Energy Management and Efficiency(EEE dept., Energy Management Cell), Discrete Control Systems, PLC, SCADA & Field Devices (EEE dept., ISTE Chapter), Innovation Centre- A Concept (KPCL), among others.
