Telecommunication Engineering

Telecommunication is an engineering discipline that brings together various fields of engineering to enhance Telecommunication systems. It focuses on development, design and maintenance of voice and data communication systems.
Department of Telecommunication was established in the year 2003, with an AICTE approved intake of 60. The Department is currently headed by Dr. Seema Singh
The Department imparts knowledge in various fields like Communication, Signal Processing and Embedded Systems. The Department has a team of well qualified and experienced staff members. The Department has well equipped laboratories with skilled technical staff.

  2. Raghunandan G H, Assistant Professor, Department of Telecommunication Engineering has been awarded as " Best Professor for Electronics and communication Engineering" by Karnataka Educational Awards-2018 on 20th December 2018 held at Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan, Bengaluru.
  3. Mallikarjuna Gowda C.P, received Best paper presenter award in the 3rd IEEE International conference on Electrical, Electronics, Communication, Computer Optimization Techniques (ICEECCOT) - 2018 at Mysuru held on 14th to 5th December 2018.
  4. Raju Hajare, Mallikarjuna Gowda C.P, M V Sanjay, G Purus Hotham, received Best paper award in the 3rd IEEE International conference on Electrical, Electronics, Communication, Computer Optimization Techniques (ICEECCOT) - 2018 at Mysuru held on 14th to 15th December 2018.
  5. Dr. C S Mala was felicitated at VTU on 29th June 2018, on the occasion of VTU 20th Foundation Day, by the past and present VC as she had served as special officer.
  6. Two books namely “Basic Electronics” and “Linear Integrated Circuits” by Mr.Raghunandan.G.H, Mr.Raju Hajare are published by cengage learning in February 2018.
  7. Mrs. Thejaswini S obtained " Best paper award" in International Conference on Emerging Trends in Science & Technologies for Engineering Systems held on 11th & 12 the January 2018 at SJC Institute of Technology, Chickballapur.

• Dr. Seema Singh, Professor & HOD, Dept. of TE was a resource person for “Artificial Neural networks for Engineering and Hands on session on Neural Networks “ in Five days open course on “Neural Networks and Signal Processing Application using MATLAB Tool” organised by Dept. of ECE,BMSIT&M on from 12th to 16th February 2019.

TEACHING LEARNING PROCESS:

  1. Faculty prepare a lesson plan for their course and adapt their and convenient methods for teaching, which include black board teaching, power point presentation etc.
  2. Active learning methods like think pair share, role Play and Poster presentation etc. are in practice. Students also undergo online courses like NPTEL and Video lectures etc.
  3. Project Based Learning (PBL) is practiced from 1st semester to 6th semester in order to make sure that student’s learning outcome improves.
  4. Slow learners are identified based on the first test marks /previous semester results, a. Remedial/Tutorial classes are conducted for slow learners for the better understanding of concepts.
    b. Quality assignments are given to students to improve the self-learning ability in them. c. Impact on results and student learning outcomes are monitored by the Academic monitoring in charge and HOD.
  5. Bright Students are encouraged to participate in project competitions, conference presentations, and publish papers in reputed journals/conference proceedings
  6. Students are encouraged to take up internship starting from 2nd semester till 8th semester to and complete 6 internships by the end of their course.

This MOU was initiated and processed by Dr. C S Mala, HOD of TE and Mrs.Prathiba.N ,ASSISTANT PROFESSOR of Department of Telecommunication Engineering, BMSIT&M. This MOU provides for training on various engineering related fields, student project and internships for students and staff. It is also helpful for conducting workshops/FDPs on Engineering and skill development topics.

Prof. Ganapathy Hebbar G was invited by Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers(IETE), Bengaluru Centre to inaugurate a two days "Workshop on IELTS preparation" on 9th September 2017. He delivered a Key note address on Importance of English language in general and communication skills.

  14. The IETE Students Forum was inaugurated by the Department of Telecommunication Engineering in 2015. A talk on Role of Semiconductors was delivered by Mr. D. G. Rao of LRDE on this occasion.
  15. STUDSAT, a consortium of seven engineering colleges from Bangalore and Hyderabad launched a PICO satellite (July 2010) by Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, which is first of its kind in India. BMS Institute of Technology and Management participated in this project by providing both financial assistant and manpower assistant to this project from TCE and ECE Department.
  16. The Department has a TELECOMMUNICATION ENGINEERING ASSOCIATION known as TEA. It is a unique platform for young aspiring minds to show case their technical and cultural talents.
  17. The Department of Telecommunications releases an annual magazine, known as TELECHRONICLE, wherein the students and staff technical publications, articles, arts and other contributions of the students and staff for the betterment of the department is published. The recognitions and awards won by the staff and students are also showcased.
  18. In the quest for academic excellence leading to global standards and to provide a platform for the students graduating from the portals of BMSIT, the Department has adopted the practice of Outcome Based Education (OBE).
  19. Dr. C S Mala and Mrs. Thejaswini S submitted a Proposal to VGST for KFIST (Level I) Programme for Infrastructure Enhancement of Advance Digital Signal Processing facilities in DSP Lab.
