COURSE OVERVIEW

The Department of Physics was established in the year 2002. The Department has well qualified and experienced teaching and technical staffs. Currently, the department consists of 10 doctorate holders and the other faculty members have registered for their Ph.D program. The Department has been recognized by VTU as a Research Centre since 2014-15.

The department caters to the needs of all the branches as it is a basic science department. There are two Engineering Physics Labs which are well furnished with latest equipments and all necessary amenities. Further one more Virtual physics lab added exclusively for computational/simulation physics experiments. A lab for the purpose of research has been set up to enable faculty members to pursue experimental research in the field of nanotechnology which includes synthesis, characterization and application of nanomaterials in recent thrust areas. The Department of Physics also has adequate infrastructure facilities to train the students and to carry out experiments. Results of the department have been consistently good and maintained this consistency every year.

VISION

To impart sound fundamentals and concepts in Physics which helps students to nurture scientific temperament and creativity in the field of engineering.

MISSION

To provide sound knowledge in applied Physics through innovative techniques and scientific methodology. To motivate students to pursue scientific analysis and develop problem solving ability in the field of engineering.

The Centre for Advanced Materials Research (CAMR) lab is equipped with DST-SERB, VGST Sponsored major instruments such as Higher End Model-Electrochemical work station, Confocal video-Raman Microscope with optical imaging, FT-IR Spectrometer, UV-Visible Spectrometer, High speed RPM Centrifuge Machine, Research Grade Double Distilled Water Unit, Solar simulator, Thin film coater, Probe station, UV-Chamber, Muffle Furnaces with fume hoods for Material/Nano material Characterization along with basic synthesis facilities. These Spectroscopy facilities are open for characterization of samples from internal (BMSIT&M)/External institutions/Industry. The studied nanomaterials has the applications in the field of Sensors, Supercapacitors, white/color LEDs, Solar Cells, wearable electronics, dosimetric applications and limit less applications in future.
